In a dark web update, ZenLedger, which shares insights about DeFi, NFT, and Cryptocurrency taxes has come in the news for being allegedly targeted by hackers. The ZenLedger data sale was announced by a user named Sing. The dark web post was titled, “Insane Crypto-tax calculator dump.”
Strangely, the user making the ZenLedger data sale claim joined the forum on August 28, 2023, suggesting that they either acquired the data from another cybercriminal or are making false claims.
“This is private, NOT the publicly available ZenLedger database,” the user stated on the dark web platform.
The data from the alleged ZenLedger data breach was on sale for an amount of $15,000. None were sold when the dark web note was posted.
They posted samples of data allegedly from the ZenLedger cyber attack. It included ID, email address, name, and role of the customer among other data. The user further claimed that they had ZenLedger.io full json data from the admin panel, over 6 million lines, and 150,000 emails.
The Cyber Express emailed the US-based organization for comments about the dark web Zenledger data sale. We will add their comments after receiving a response.
The website of ZenLedger was accessible when checked by The Cyber Express team. There have been no reports of a data breach attempt or ZenLedger cyber attack so far.
Users on hacker forums have been at loggerheads with each other as observed by dark web gatekeepers. The alleged Sony data leak claim was first made by the group named RansomedVC. However, soon another hacker forum user came forward to deny that while releasing data allegedly from Sony hacking.
ZenLedger Data Sale and the Dark Web Shenanigans
A cybercriminal who calls themselves USDoD said that they will hack Lockheed Martin as its future target. However, later he said that he did not intend to breach the global security and aerospace firm Lockheed Martin that serves the US defense sector.
It was a ploy to divert people’s minds away while he went on his hacking spree. “I was happy to have Raytheon and Lockheed spending most of their time and efforts in fixing their issues while I got access to Deloitte, NATO, and CEPOL all in the same day,” he said in an interview.
Although, a little while later, Killnet, the hacktivist group announced on the dark web that they breached Lockheed Martin.
In 2020, a hacker publicly released personal data of over 270,000 users of Ledger, a hardware wallet provider. The leaked files contained Ledger’s marketing database. This led several victims to threaten to file a lawsuit against the firm.
The details included 1,075,382 email addresses of subscribers of the Ledger newsletter, 272,853 hardware wallet orders, addresses, and phone numbers.
Users were sent phishing emails by scammers who took advantage of the Ledger cyber attack. Fraudulent versions advertised as newer versions of Ledger software were asked to be downloaded to further the malicious activities of scammers.
Addressing security risks posed due to such data leaks, the attacked firm shared, “Never share the 24 words of your recovery phrase with anyone, even if they are pretending to be a representative of Ledger.”
